Best thing with salespeople is to ignore them.

I usually find that after I have done my research I know more than they do. At my local Mr T. I ended up showing/telling their "Product Specialist" things about the Avensis that he didn't know ...

Just double checked and the info matches Toyota's bulletin, PM your reg or chassis number & let me check.

I bought a new corolla hatchback 4/4/2019. On arriving home discovered no spare wheel. I am on going in dispute with the dealer since. should i have been informed a point of sale i would not be getting a spare wheel. Or given the option to purchase a the saloon version that comes with a spare wheel. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi James, welcome to TOC 🙂

I would have said if you didn't ask specifically, no, if you did ask specifically then, yes. Does the brochure or website in Eire give info on spare/TRK fitment?

Presumably you had the option of buying a hatch/TS or saloon & you opted for hatch?

You can buy a spare/jack etc. after the event.

Not sure about the brochure. I went for the hatchback for financial reasons. I am dealing with this dealer for 20 years. The same salesman for 10 years. Bought all new cars from them. Never received or knew about cars not having no spare wheels. On arriving home that day made contact with the sales man who informed me that is the way they come.

They have offered my the spare wheel at a reduction to 150 euros as a token gesture. But attempted to fit twice to my car and failed saying Toyota left them short of parts. It was then they told me my boot size would be reduced in order to fit the wheel fit. I was flabbergasted why do have to accept a reduction in the cubic capacity of the boot. After spending 28,840 euros on this car.

tbh Toyota are 1 of the better manufacturers in terms of this. They fit at least spacesavers as standard to a higher % of their cars in the UK (don't know about Eire) than most.

I feel badly done by not being informed before or during the sale. with no offer from day one of rectifying the situation

Why didn't you either check the specifications yourself or actually ask?

So not the case this time - and Toyota isn't the only manufacturer to use tyre repair kits on some of their models.

i am new to this site already I sense a little loyalty towards the manufacturer.  A bit like the kings new clothes. Where criticism must be defended at all costs.

There is a certain amount of loyalty to the brand especially when you spend a large amount of money with them ;-)
However for myself it's not blind like people are with Apple and Android/Windows!

Tyre repair kits (TRK) are becoming more of the norm these days. It's all to do with weight saving and lowering the co2 emissions.
Over here, the only Corolla that comes with a spacesaver spare as standard is the saloon.
The hatchback here has a TRK listed as standard, with no option for a spare. There is an option for a spare on the hatchback Design version only, in the UK, and it does state that boot space will be reduced with the spare in there.
The touring sports here is also listed with a TRK as standard, with no option for a spare. Over in the UK however, there is a spare option on all versions.
Remember it's not just the spare, you'll need the jack, folding wedge, and wheel key/spanner as well. And the polystyrene 'holder' that goes into the space under the boot floor will need to be changed as well.

Does the gunk that goes in the tyre ruin the tyre or can it be repaired?

I wonder what fuel savings there are to be made not lugging around a space saver & jack etc compaired to having to purchase a new tyre.

Seems like a lot of fuss over very little. In thirty years of driving I've never needed a spare wheel once. And it is common knowledge that new cars often don't come with a spare wheel. It's been that way for several years now.

It is more a matter of being realistic, making sure you know what you're buying and that your purchase meets your requirements.

The fact one doesn't bother to check whether a car comes with a tyre repair kit or a spare wheel (and most spare wheels supplied with new cars are spacesavers rather than full size), doesn't mean the dealer or salesperson has been negligent in the sale.

Nothing to do with loyalty to any one manufacturer. Tyre repair kits are a common feature on some models of new cars across manufacturers, in order to save weight and ensure the models comp!y with emissions and weight legislation.

We've bought 21 new cars, and I have always ensured the cars come with the features we want, rather than making a blind assumption that those features are present.  Not rocket science.

It would help if the Toyota website facts are correct. Two sources told me I would get a space saver as standard. I didn't.

Did you reply by pm to Devon Aygo's post of 5/9/19.?

Not just about fuel saving - emissions are also a factor.

not to mention that fuel economy/emissions affect the taxation treatment which has an effect on fleet sales.

That old chestnut also applies when you are spending tens of thousands of euros or pounds "Caveat emptor".
