Auris 2010 tell-tale light issue

I have Auris 2010. Right tell-tale bulb/lamp is not working on the dashboard, otherwise indicator outside is fine.

Toyota has told me strange thing that it will cost £670 because apparently they can't change bulb/lamp only but will need to change whole unit

Please guide how to fix this issue?

Is tell-tale light required for MOT?

Thanks

This will be an LED rather than a traditional bulb and there would be a good chance the issue could be a poorly soldered connection on either the LED or elsewhere on the panel. Even if the LED were faulty (and LED's are incredibly reliable) replacements cost peanuts (£1 for a pack of 5) but your big problem here is both accessibility... the panel has to be removed... and then working on the panel which is really the realm of pure electronics. Most of the components will be what are referred to as SMD (surface mount devices) which mean they need special skills to remove and replace them. Toyota will simply replace the whole panel.

You could try looking for specialists that do dash instrumentation repairs and who would repair this to component level.

Get one from a scrapper or eB** for less than £100. Look for a similar mileage on the odometer.

Same issue, fixed by going to a local place and having it replacing the led using reballing machine (blows hot air to melt the solder, used for replacing smd's)

Cost 60 GBP, as oposed to some dash repair shops asking for 150+.

Find some electronics shops in your area that do general electronics, tv's, phones, etc, they should all be able to do it, for a fraction of the cost.

Fortunately no it isn't. As long as the audible 'click' still works it's not a failure.
