Using thicker oil to temporarily stop smoke & oil burning

Hi all,

i own a 5th gen Celica with the 4afe engine. the car smokes alot when above 3000rpm (blue smoke). as i don't have any testing equipement, the guys at the Toyota dealer did a compression test and all seemed fine. they assume its the valve guides or the oil scraper ring (is that how you call it?) but aren't 100% certain as they can't pull the whole engine apart obviously.

Now to come to the point, can i (temporarily!!) use 10W-60 oil instead of 10W-40 to stop oil getting burned thru one of the above places? or would that be to thick once the engine has warmed up and cause trouble? (i'm answering this question because i can't afford an engine rebuild just yet)
