Hi all, just joined the forum. The engine check light has came on and l need to find out what the issue is without paying a fortune just to have the code read and so am looking for advice on the best reader for general occasional use. Should anyone in the Markinch area and have a reader and could help me out that would be greatly appreciated until I pick up a reader.

Maybe you are referring to having codes read at Toyota dealer?

If you go to local garage, if anything, they will maybe charge you few pounds.

People here mostly use Techstream diagnostic, as it's the Toyota's own diagnostic software.

You only need an adapter cable (eBay and like), costs around 10 gbp or so, and a laptop.

If you don't have a laptop, and want a generic code reader, i can recommend Launcher CR3001. It costs few pounds more than Toyota techstream cable.

It does the job, it's standalone, tiny screen and a few buttons., and has a bit more functionality than the bluetooth ones you pair to your phone.

Cheers Dean, I’ll download Techstream and grab a OBD2 cable.
