Loss of power - injectors or something else

I had a RAV4 20+ years ago and loved it. I have just been offered a 2005 2.0l diesel with 79,000 on the clock. It has been off the road for a year. I know the owner well. He told me that it would lose power under acceleration and go into limp home mode. You could cure this by flicking the ignition on and off.

His local garage (not a Toyota specialist) changed the turbo, but this did not cure the problem. They then told him that it needed new injectors. He thought, "sod that", and parked it up.

I had a very similar problem on my Volvo V70 and that was cured by changing the diesel filter.

Does this fault ring any bells with any of you? If so, views gratefully received.

The vehicle is in great condition and also has a new clutch and flywheel, so I am hoping I can get things sorted.

This problem has been discussed on the forum a multitude of times just do a search for power loss in the search bar. U need to put the jeep on the computer and see what show's up. The maf sensor on top of the air filter box fixed our Rav and also blocking off the egr valve, but I had an 04 Rav also had this problem and I never was able to cure it and got rid. It's important what might show on the computer. But u may never fix the problem

Mine limped when the EGR was clogged, but I don’t think I could have cured it by flicking ignition on and off.

You need to read the fault codes plenty cheap ones on eBay the main reason for this problem is EGR sticking but without a fault code it's impossible to tell?
