Exceeding Speed Limit Warning - 2019 Corolla

With my old Auris if I exceeded the speed limit I was scolded by a female voice. I understand from the Corolla handbook that this has been replaced by a 'bong'. However this does not work on my new 1.8 Excel. Again reading the navigation manual I understand that to get to the settings I need to first select the Map settings and then select the 'Speed Limits - Show on Map' option to get to the settings for this function.

My problem is that the 'Speed Limits - Show on Map' field is greyed out showing that it is inactive. I have been back to the dealer for help. They have drawn a blank and need to consult Toyota. Whilst I was there I checked against their demonstrator and it was also greyed out and inoperative on this car.

Can any-one throw any light on this? Is there a setting that we have both missed or is this feature not functioning on any Corolla?

Mine (Excel) will show the current limit on the speedometer and it turns red when you're driving above it.

If the speed limiter is set and you go down hill and go faster than the set limit it will give an audio warning.

These are shown on the dash in combination with the front camera.

What you need to do is on menu on display scroll on to RSA and hold down OK button,then you can select above speed limit press OK and choose between no notification, only visual or visual and audio. Select OK go back and select notification level. Then choose 1,3 or 3mph above limit then go back and you will get warning of 3 beeps and on display

@Taxisteve

Thank you so much. This is the answer I was seeking. I will now advise my main dealer's Technical Specialist so that he can help others who may ask. I note that 'Speed Limits - Show on Map' is still greyed out on the Navigation screen. Presumably this is because the function has been moved to other screen.

I have set it to 3MPH above the speed limit. Interestingly having checked the car's digital speedo against the GPS speedo on a stand alone Garmin Sat Nav it shows the car speedo reads 3MPH fast. So in fact the car speed limit colour change and warning bong is actually on the true limit.

All car speedos read fast. It's the result of legislation that requires speedometers to never under read. To avoid falling foul of the law manufacturers make them over read.

Sorry to reopen an old thread, but I’ve just taken delivery of my Corolla TS Icon Tech and have the same issue. Is there any work around in sight? I note that so far you have settled for the traffic sign based warning, but my 2017 Yaris Icon Tech hybrid offers both. This offers some significant advantages:

1: In town it gives me a two stage warning- a beep from the traffic sign system at 30mph and the satnav shouts at me at 35mph.

2: In the country the satnav knows the difference between unrestricted single carriageways and unrestricted dual carriageways and gives appropriate warnings at 60mph or 70mph. The traffic sign based system can’t do this.
