Disabling smart entry

My last Auris was stolen whilst shopping by someone who grabbed the fob signal. Having just bought a 2019 replacement the dealer say they have disabled the keyless entry providing I press the lock button on the fob and then once locked, a further double press defeats the keyless entry. This seems to work as I can then only unlock it by pressing the unlock on the fob. But I can still start it as long as the fob is in the car so has the signal really been switched off?

I think the signal from the fob has not been disabled, only the car has been told to ignore it and not allow unlocking.

As far as the start go, it should be different kind of signal.

A simple example, i disconnected the car Battery on my 2007 auris, reconnected it, the car started just fine, but when i pressed the lock/unlock buttons, nothing happened, until i registered it's code to be used for locking/unlocking.
