hello and thank you all for your response . I have my map screen lights set automatic please see photos . When I drive the car at night the map screen display is still bright although the settings are set to automatic meaning it should dim for night driving  , I have to go into settings to turn on night mode . If I am driving in the day time and the screen settings are automatic and i have not touched the head light switch . If I go into an underpass the headlights turn on automatic the screen dims ?? . It will not due this at night .please see photos thank you

I'm not sure if the day/night mode for the map display has anything to do with the light sensor for the automatic headlights. I will check mine more carefully and let you know. The manual says that day/night mode is determined by the position of the headlamp switch only so I suppose headlights on by any method should invoke night mode.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't, and that only the sensitivity on the Light Settings screen affects the headlights - I've got mine on -2 as well, and when I first got my 2016 Prius my dealer confirmed with their Hand Held Terminal this was the lowest setting.

I really wanted to be able to disable the car's ability to suddenly switch on headlights without my knowledge even in good light just because it's shaded by buildings or overhanging trees.  I've had 3 near miss accidents when other people have briefly thought I was flashing them.  One route I take frequently from a beach to a clifftop involves a narrow road with some sharp 90° turns with dark buildings either side, and the lights turn on and off 3 or 4 times in the ¾ mile trip.  Another nearby tree-lined route also brings them on and off at least twice.

The manual shows two version of the indicator/light stalk, one like ours and one with a fully Off position.  Both I and my dealer tried very hard to find a source for a compatible switch with the off position, but without success.
