What is the difference geo-aligning wheels on a Prius vs non-hybrids?

Just wondering why a garage refuse to geo-align hybrids because of being untrained on hybrids. Is doing alignment on a Prius quite different to non-hybrid wheels?

??? Geo align ??? Find a place with a 4 wheel alignment rack  preferably a John Bean Visualiner, hybrids are no different to any other car

As for wheel balancing any decent tyre place will be able to balance both, bolt and hub centric wheels (avoid the large chains and main stealers)

Was it a Kwik-fit by any chance?

They were notorious at one time for refusing to do anything to Hybrids because they misunderstood what the differences were.  A few other places heard about this and followed suit.

I didn't think they still had this problem, but you never know!

Yes it was. Basically I had wheels changed and aligned in a London branch. Alignment was off, so they redid it. Alignment still off. Booked into a different branch to get it redone again, but once I turned up, they didn't realise it was a hybrid. So I have to go back to the original branch at another time. I just can't comprehend why aligning wheels is different on a hybrid.

It isn't!  It's all in (whatever passes for) the mind of some members of their management.

With Kwik Fit............... Just run and run as fast as you can, you get better deals and service with independents, IMHO get the wheels balance rechecked

Pmsl - They didn't know the Prius was a hybrid

What part of London are you from ?

I had the same issue with Halfords.  I wanted to purchase new types but they wouldn't want to do an alignment because of the "high voltage cable" running under the car's chassis!

My car drift cannot be fixed as their alignment machine report no problems. Got the alignment refunded.

As above take to somewhere what knows what they are doing, they will be able to find the issue

The equipment is only as good as the person using it

Correct, the most important of all is how you set the equipment before measuring and how is calibrated by the manufacturers and installers. The main stream garages like the one mentioned are not a good choice for any work especially the precise one like that, I rather visit main dealer for that work or independent small garage specialists car tracking.

Take it somewhere else.

I had problems with uneven tyre wear, despite getting the "alignment" done twice in the same place it turns out they had never adjusted the toe (one of the main adjustments on the front) as the adjustment had seized. I took it to a different tyre shop and they told me exactly what was wrong, I got it sorted at a mechanic, and they gave me a readout that showed everything now looked good (previous tyre shop didn't even give printouts or anything).

There is also a big difference between a simple wheel alignment and a 4 wheel alignment done on a rack iirc it was £45 the last time I had it done and there was a night and day improvement
