Hi,  a large  red Battery image appeared on the dash to night.

I've a 2014 Auris excel with 57000 miles on clock.

Do I need a new Battery?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, it could be the alternator, you will need a multimeter to check both. Mike.

OK, thank you, I will see if I can get someone to look at it, thanks

just looked at the manual and it says  "indicates a malfunction in the vehicles charging system"... if this is any help :)

The ones I would get to look at the car are closed, :(  I started the car this morning and the light is off.

If it comes on again I will try revving to see if it goes off.

IS IT SAFE TO DRIVE ?

Thanks

Hi Tony, for a short distance only as you will be draining the Battery all the time. Defo no lights, HRW, fan etc on. Mike.

Thanks Mike, well, I managed to find a local mechanic and he checked the Battery voltage and it was perfect and the fan belt was OK too so, as you said above, he talked about the alternator too, but the light is off.....for now.

Hi Tony.

If the red light ever comes on again at say 1500 rpm or higher I feel it is you alternator, the diode pack has worn out, a cheap part in itself but if you don't know how to solder one in then it's an exchange alternator.

Often it's cheaper to get your one repaired as you know it will fit but it means of course your car is off the road for a couple of days.

Let us all know if it goes wrong again just to keep us all 'up to speed'.

Regards, Mike.

Thank you Mike for the advice, the warning light is still off after using the car today.

Yes, if it comes back on and I get it sorted, I will report back :)

Thanks everyone for the help.
