Faulty Cd Changer Uk Supra

Hi Guys

I picked up my Supra yesterday and it's absolutely wonderful, best car I've ever driven.

Only problem I've got with it is that the CD Changer doesn't work. Everytime I load a disk in it, the stereo displays Err 1.

Does anyone know what this means? The owners manual doesn't cover the CD Changer.

Alternatively (or in addition) does anyone know the best way to remove the stereo for me to replace it with another double din unit if I decide that's the best thing to do

Cheers :)

I haven't got the toyota changer in mine, got it in a box under the bed

But i remember the changer in my Lexus LS400 said the same Error message, i looked at the handbook and found out that they designed it so that the disks go in upside down.

May be worth giving this a go

Thanks for the suggestion, but that's the way these disks are designed to go in, so I've already tried it.

Anyone else got any ideas?

Cheers :)

Well assuming everything is connected properly i would say the changer is screwed, a lot of supra owners have removed the changer - possibly because they dont last long.

I've tried to find error codes but havent been successful.

One thing you could do is unplug the changer and try it then. If it displays error 1 then you know that error 1 is a connection problem.

If it comes up with a diffrent error code then you know the connection was ok.

These disk changers are over 10years old in design so i would have said that they arent built as well as more modern units. Cheapest thing to do is just change it all for a new system.

It picks up the connection ok, tested it with and without the changer, so that's one thing.

Guess the laser in the changer is dead then (it loads each disc in quite happily, just doesn't read them)

If I was to replace the system then, what extras would I need (ie cables, blanking plates)

Is it easy to change the head unit, or would I be better off getting it changed professionally. I can't see from a quick look how the existing head unit would come out.

Do you know where I could get a blanking plate for it, or a suggestion what to use the remaining DIN slot for. I've had a look at double din units, they're either expensive or just look crap.

Thanks :)

Very easy to strip out the standard system, just takes a while.

You can buy a nice Blitz blanking plate like i have which will also allow you to fit a nice boost timer while your at it :D

Come to JAE and i'll show you my install, will be a good idea seeing as we have identical motors

Photo opportunity i think, not every day you got two Rosso Red UK Supra TT's with Cream Leather Interior in the same place :D

When and where and what is JAE?

JAE is the Ultimate weekend for Jap car bods......

It is at the Billing Aquadrome in Northampton on July the 24th and 25th.

Over 100 TOC peeps should be in attendance over the weekend - more maybe and will give u the chance to meet the faces, see the cars and have a great time looking round hundreds of other Jap cars old and newer.......
