2004 corolla power cuts off completely engine light comes on does this intermittently - dangerous!

Lost power completely doing steady 100ks on fwy. Lasted 10secs. Since the happening intermittently sometimes stops several times in a kilometre then ok. Once it stops it will restart after about 5mins.

Which engine?

Did you hit anything, or replaced anything recently before it started?

Does it ever happen when cold, or only when hot, does it happen less when in colder weather?

What happens when it dies, can you crank, does radio, lights, etc work?

 

You should update your profile with the car model , age and engine..

Simple items first are the Battery terminals tight and clean ? get the Battery and alternator checked

Sounds like an earth problem or a connection to the ECU not connected properly.
