Toyota Japan (Asia) VS Europé ?

Saw in an Swedish car mag. ”Auoto Motor Sport” that Toyota has about 60 car models (if you count Proace verso and some other smaller people transporters) in Japan

but in Sweden (and Europé I think) there’s only about 13 models availiable.

What or Who decides /determines which models that will be availiable in Europé?

Is there any way to affect those decicions ?

I would say that Toyota Europe make the main decision, with the separate importer for each European market area (eg. UK, France, etc) deciding which models within Toyota Europe's portfolio to sell in their area.

Bear in mind that a few Toyota models sold in Japan are versions of Daihatsus (eg: Toyota Passo - Daihatsu Boon (previously sold in Europe as the Daihatsu Sirion); Toyota Pixis Epoch - Daihatsu Mira e; Toyota Rush - Daihatsu Terios; etc).

Some vehicles that were previously sold in both markets were discontinued in Europe due to low sales volumes (eg. IQ, Urban Cruiser, Verso S). The Estima (sold in Europe as the Previa) was discontinued in Europe as it couldn't compete profitably with the heavily discounted Ford Galaxy/VW Sharan/Seat Alhambra).

Also Japan has the 'Kei' car class which has specific limits on size, engine capacity, etc, and these probably wouldn't sell well in Europe, and be expensive to export, with limited profitability. In the Kei class Toyota currently sell the Pixis Epoch, Pixis Joy, Pixis Mega, Pixis Space, Pixis van and Pixis truck - all of which are versions of Daihatsu-built models.

Toyota also has four dealership chains in Japan for different market segments selling different models, although these will be managed down by 2025 and the current range of around 60 models will be halved. Presently Toyota dealers sell premium models, Toyopet dealers sell medium priced models, Corolla dealers sell mass market models, and Netz dealers target younger drivers. Lexus has its own separate dealer network.

Also the Corolla is built in the UK and Turkey (saloon), and the C-HR in Turkey. Russia also has a Toyota plant that builds the Rav4 and Camry. Engine plants are in Poland and the UK.
