Roof Bars?

Prius TS, 2011

We've had several trips packed to the gunnels (two/three people, two dogs, tent, other camping gear) and enough is enough - we need some more space.

A tow bar apparently isn't allowed, so it'll have to be a roof box (or more likely a roof bag, since we've got nowhere to store a roof box at home, and I don't want it sitting in the garden all year).

SO... first I need to source a set of roof bars.

The online selector on eBay doesn't appear to have the Prius on it at all (it even says a set of works bars linked from the Toyota web site won't fit).

Halfords only suggests Thule - I've had a Thule roof box before on a previous car, and they're brilliant, but they're also £200 a pair.

I can't see a good reason why the £30 no-brand ebay/amazon roof bars won't fit - I'm just working myself up to give it a punt.

Has anyone got any experience of this? Is there something vital I'm missing here?

Thanks in Advance.

We bought the Toyota roof bars for our Yaris.

Excellent, and you know they fit, coz it's what they sell for your particular model and year.  All done via the VIN code so no guesswork.  They even fitted them for me.

Mick.

It’s about the rubber feet and the width of your bars. Thule do a generic foot to fit both aero and square bars for the 2011. We combined this with a Thule weekender top box for the same reasons.
