Cannot start my car

I have a toyota prius and I cannot start it. The dash shows the car locked synbol. Tried holding the fob to the start switch for ten seconds and staring it but wont start. How can I start the car? New auxillary Battery on board with new fob Battery as well.

Have you got another fob to try ?

(IIRC I think the lock symbol on the dash is indicating that the alarm or immobilser is armed).

Did you press the start button while holding the key against it?

As Keith says, the lock symbol means the immobiliser has activated.
