 I have, as many of you no doubt have also had, or maybe still have, a 2wd turbo diesel Townace, and though we had great difficulty in insuring it this year ( :o more than 800 pounds). I have finally got it on the road...But i still do not know why there is a little red button adjacent to the gear leaver (Auto) any ideas?

Hi mate,

Welcome to TOC.

The red button (of it's the same as the one in my Sera) is an interlock bypass. If the ignition is on and you press the brake pedal, the interlock on the gear lever releases allowing you to select a gear.

NOW.........if the ignition isn't full on (i.e. stereo powered but nothing more...) Pressing the brake AND the red button bypasses the interlock and allows you to move the gear lever. It's not really much use unless you're taking the dash or the radio to bits.

Just tell anyone who asks that it's for the ejector seat, but you had to disable the mechanism for Health and Safety reasons so demonstrations aren't available.

Warp drive? Sorry!

Welcome to the forum. That's a serious price for insurance.

Hiya,

We managed to insure a 1991 Townace for about £400, and that was with no no-claims bonus' or anything! (we lost our now cliams when we moved back from France... bummer!). Unfortunately our lovely townie's fuel pump died and it was just too expensive for repairs (anyone want a townace for spares or repairs?)

-Ben.

You don't even need to have the key in the ignition. You can just hold the red button down and move the gear lever out of "Park".
