replacement gearbox advice

I need to replace the gearbox in my partners 2009 1.33vvti Yaris. I have found gearboxes from newer cars (2015/2017) but need to ensure they will fit before purchasing. I am assuming it is unlikely much changed between the mk2 and mk3 engines/gearboxes, and as long as I match the engine code 1NRFE and ensure 6 speed box all should be ok?

Can anyone advise? or is there anything I need to double check before purchasing

many thanks in advance

What's the fault with the box has it lost 5th and 6th ?

Is it a Jap or French built car ? (Vin Starts with VNK if its French)

Edit. Its possibly 1 of 4 gearboxes depending on the manufacturer, the code on the end/top of the box should tell you

Is a manual or the semi auto (MMT, No Clutch pedal) both are 6 speed ?

The gear linkage on top isn't moving - (I can just about force it into 1st and reverse, 3rd and 6th are fine but the rest are no go) so Toyota believe there is something jamming inside.. so ideally looking for a new box to put in.

its a French built car (VNK), manual 6 speed, engine code is 1NRFE.. according to Toyota as long as I find a box whose stamp code starts with 12EPP I will be fine?

thanks again

a quick search

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOYOTA-YARIS-SR-2008-GEARBOX-12EPP-COVERED-59-000-MILES/293067718441?hash=item443c327f29:g:l5kAAOSwL~hbMjTo

With the cables removed does the mech on the gearbox move at all ? With the cables removed does the shifter cables move freely ? Does the clutch have any feel to it as you bring it up to bite ?

shifter cables move fine when removed - the mech on the gearbox is seized... clutch is fine.. just trying to find a low mileage option or recon with some warranty. final option is to take to transmission specialist

You will have to go the rebuild route tbh, as finding a low mileage one isn't going to happen

under the gearstick you can ajust the cables, i thit this a while a go for a drined with a yaris 1.3 from 2010 afther that it was just fine

The op has something mechanically wrong as the linkages do not move on the gearbox, It may be a selector fork issue

thanks for the replies everyone.  Still trying to sort this out, Toyota wont give a part number, but been told that it needs to match the engine?  something about it being a TMMP???

apparently there is a stamp on the gearbox underneath and I need to match that.. so will be having a look

£3209+Vat for a new box from Toyota!! (that's supply only) - the quest continues!

A look on the epc with all the info given shows it as 30300-0D120

I did a search on eBay "breaking 2009 yaris 1NR" and come up with a few candidates

thanks again, yes ive called and messaged most trying to ensure the part will be correct. waiting on a few to get back to me..

ive seen several which have part number 30300D311 and im wondering how much different can it be?? still a 1nrfe 1329 petrol engine and 6 speed...?? Im guessing everything still matches up to engine in terms of fitting - maybe ratios might be slightly different? or redesigned levers? but if I check all internal parts on the EPC against my car and they match then surely it would work?

must admit im getting tempted just to try it and if its no good back to drawing board

that's the later gearbox, the flywheel, clutch and starter will be different there may be a different offset on the slave cylinder and/or input shaft, the stop start system starter is much bigger

if the car is not in use there is no harm in pulling the box and seeing what the issue is

  • 2 weeks later...

**quick update - thanks for al the help and advice

managed to source a gearbox from a 2010 vehicle (which had half the mileage) and have replaced that, the clutch and slave.. overall cost £500..

few niggles with bleeding system - but all is gravy so hopefully many more happy miles for the missus!

Glad you got it sorted and don't have to live in the dog house or kip on the sofa anymore

ok spoke to soon...😥

keep losing clutch pedal pressure, despite vacuum pumping the system to get rid of air.. means repeated pumping of clutch to engage and disengage gear.

(going to try and source and replace master cylinder before going back in to slave)

any one have any ideas? or could it be something we've missed whilst putting everything back together ?(a quirk specific to the yaris?)

thanks again all
