WAZE - iPhone 8

I know some of you will be Waze sat nav users via mobile phone.  I am trying to set up Waze on my iPhone 8 but coming across problems, so wondering if others had come across my situation and knew a way round the problem.           
I loaded Waze app onto my iPhone 8, set up preferences, no problems. Sitting in my armchair I can program in a place to go to, press start journey, get in the car and it seems ok (only tried on a short journey). However, when I try to input a journey whilst I am away from home it’s a no go,and my mobile phone screen says “searching signal”.  It’s as if when at home it is using WiFi, but when I away from WiFi signal it won’t pick up on my Plusnet (EE)  phone signal.            
Anyone else had a similar problem, and sorted it.           
I testing out HERE and WAZE. Here is working ok, Waze is working fine on the wife’s Android phone, and it is Waze I would love to get working on my oPhone 8.      Any help?
