I have a 2007 LC4 and replaced it recently with a Pioneer system. The pioneer system came with Android Auto/ Apple Car Play and is a dream to use - Google Maps or Waze sat nav with real time traffic plus Google Assistant. The Pioneer has a capacitive screen (pinch/zoom), DAB radio, Podcasts, Spotify, USB media etc etc. I would recommend looking at one of these "new" systems rather than messing with trying to update to an older Toyota device that has the equivalence screen definition as a 1980 PacMan 🙂 I bought the Pioneer system from a local shop who also installed it - it was pretty painless and very neat.

I bought a high end Pioneer - AVH-Z900dab (around £500 + fitting £120) but you don't necessary need to go this far (I like my tech). It depends what you want out the system.

The system it was replacing was a TNS600 Double DIN. I'm not sure what yours looks like - whether Single or Double DIN, however, there will be something that will work.

If you have a budget in mind then I would do some google searches or alternatively take the car into a local shop and ask what options are available and how neat the install will be - this was the most worrying part for me but the local shop explained exactly how they were going to do it.

it does sound expensive but I just have a brief look on eBay and the old TNS600 is going for £200 and I'm pretty sure that you could easily find a modern unit for that price.

Hi, I have a 57plate landcruiser invincible lc5 and would like to update the sat nav with a similar pioneer system. My concern is that all of the heater controls, fan, air con etc is controlled from the screen on the toyota unit so don't the pioneer would be able to do that?

Many thanks

entry level android auto starts around the £3-400 mark the fitting kits can vary in price,

stick with alpine or pioneer, as for fitting kits/adapters connects2 are good quality steering wheel controls depend on the oem radio manufacturer the common ones are Fujitsu ten or Matsu****a (Panasonic)

one of the downside with going after market is you lose some factory integration

Buy a Toyota sat nav b9003 on eBay, it has the same green lights as the rest of the dash, it is basically plug in, you might need an antenna which sits underneath the dash on top of the speedo etc, the unit is basic and you can buy the lastest disc on eBay.
