High Pitched Whine!

Hi, i've owned my 1993 Carina E 2Litre GLI hatch for six years now and never had a problem ,i've only replaced tyres, rear shocks and carried out my own basic services. It had 60,000 miles on the clock when i bought it and now its on 113,000 six years later.

I now have a problem! :o . I've noticed a high pitched whine which seems to come in at lower speeds when i'm cruising but dissapears if i put my foot down a bit harder. Its not very loud but its annoying ,someone said it could be the clutch as it dissapears when i press the clutch pedal down sometimes.

Any ideas? Its driving me crazy! :ffs:

Cheers.

If it dissapears when you press the clutch then it's unlikly to be that, sounds like a layshaft bearing in the gearbox, try changing the gearbox oil 1st see if it quietens down.
