Can anybody give me some advice on the auto gearbox.

The vehicle starts okay, selects all the gears okay but wont drive. The car trys to move in the direction of the gear chosen but just wont move.

The OBD codes show up no problems.

Any ideas?

Very funny guys, very funny.

Oil level was spot on, vehicle was on the ground and the handbrake is off. also the brakes are free if anybody else is interested. Was driving along at the time and just lost all drive.

It looks like e-bay could well be my best bet, thanks dannygr27 for that tip.

All i need now is a couple of 400 pound gorillas to help me drop the unit out :)

It sounds like the torque-converter has packed up. I would take it to a specalist to look at it first before trying to get another box as a used one could be a bit dodgy and new ones are outrageous prices.

I would agree there take it to an auto specialist rather then a Toyota dealer, I took mine to one when I had a fault, basically all the Jap boxes are the same he told me. Even my dads Subaru Legacy autobox is the same near enough as my Estima's, so theres a strong bet that a decent 'under the arches' auto man would have worked on one sometime

It had to be compleatly re built, apparently the kickdown cable at some point had snapped and wrapped it's self around a cog things, and burnt the bugger out, they did go all tech on me, but that was probbly after i passed out , they gave the price 1st

Ouch!!! it's a begger of a job m8, good luck, don't forget to fit a new kickdown cable when doing the job (if automatic) and only use the correct fluids and folow the instructions, get it right it should last a very long time :)

there is aN INHIBITOR switch from the gear selector , the same one that tells the car its in park.sometimes they can pack in , even though its in drive this switch tells the car its still in park and wont allow it to drive. JUST A THOUGHT BUT WORTH CONSIDERING .

Well,

Gearbox is in, :) and thank god the problem is solved.

Why oh Why do they put the kickdown cable in such a god forsaken place, everything else was fairly easy. !Removed! of a job on your back and on your own though.

Thanx to all for the advice (and humour)
