As Toyota Owners Club has no association with Toyota, you need to contact Toyota customer relations for them to be aware of your dissatisfaction.

Louie, not wishing to be disrespectful, but I think you raised this in about 3 different topics now. I already said you had to do it by the on line account, so this is not new information. There are loads of topics for you to read that cover other owners experiences, just read through the topics, there is loads of information there.

As Frostyballs says, it is probably time you just take a list of your grievances to your dealer. Make an appointment to see your sales person, warn them you have a list which may take some time, and go through everything one by one. That's my advice, it is what I would do anyway.

We all had initial set up problems, for me, owning a previous car that had very little technology except a cruise control, it has been a fun experience, learning new skills!

Good luck.

Hi Timmon

I do not in any way consider your comments disrespectful.

I have a butterfly brain so little patience with things that dont  work first time round. I have had many cars and motorbikes in the past and an oldish  Toyota Corrolla  which i was very pleased with as it never missed a beat and i did not have to plague people on a forum with silly questions about basic functionality.I guess  time has moved on and  technology has become increasingly more complicated witness your smartphone which is not really a mobile but a computer. I was an IT hardware specialist in my previous life so have seen technology repeatedly work and fail so i guess i am tired of seeing a behemoth in the car industry such as Toyota attempt to bring user friendly technology to the masses and fail specifically on the software side when compared to other car industry giants.

Hi Louie,

Fair enough. I agree, things have moved on a lot. My last car was 17 years old. I was looking to buy a Mercedes 250, but when I went to the dealer, the sales person was obviously commissioned to get rid of the forecourt cars (trade in's) and did everything possible to put me onto a car I didn't want.In the end, he even refused to give me a test drive, and having said the sales manager wanted to meet me, he returned and announced "The sales manager won't meet you today because you are not going to buy from us today!"

So I gave up, and went to Toyota to see the new Corolla, advising the sales guy that I would not make a decision today. He could not have been more helpful, checking with me by asking questions, that I was choosing the right car, had a test drive, met the sales manager, but no pressure. I bought on the day.

So I am a bit of a new fan of Toyota, especially as the Corolla is built here, so great for our own work force.

The problems you mention seem widespread. Most frustrating is that the cars are now so complex, even the dealers struggle with the technology. It took from May when I got the car to September to get my car working "on line". The dealer tried hard with no success,  and in the end the Help desk contacted me and we got the car registered successfully.

So I do understand your frustrations. We have not really bought cars, they are more mobile computers, so I guess everyone is on a learning curve! Gone are the days when we just had to worry about the gap on the contact breakers and the tappets! The Toyota dealer is the only one who can help with your more complex problems, but when sorted, the car is pretty good.

Hi Timmon

I agree completely and just before I acquired my Corolla Gr Sport i asked three  different dealers a simple question about a a certain specification and each one gave different answers so no doubt dealers are struggling with the current complexities. You will not believe why i purchased my current Corolla it was something really banal yes it was the HUD display as when i spotted it i was  immediately hooked  no doubt my propeller  on my skull starting spinning out of control at the time. (My Geekness/gadget boy personality coming out).

Anyway the more i drive my smooooth Corolla the more i am enjoying the drive despite its little niggles also there is no such thing as a niggle free car.

Well, I was disappointed that the HUD is not a feature of the Excel, but, no doubt, many other features will be included as time goes on, to entice new customers. Same with everything, as soon as you buy it, a better spec is about to be launched.

I'm sure you will get to like it more as you get used to it. A niggle I have is that the paint work seems to chip quite easily, and because I have a new car, I notice every blemish! Being winter, it seems debris is being thrown at you by every passing car, especially after the recent wet weather, and the road surfaces are breaking up.Compared to my SAAB, which hardly had a mark after 17 years, The Corolla paint seems very soft and thin. Luckily I took out insurance, so they are going to be busy I think.

Hi Timmon

I had a Saab 99 and 900 Turbo in the past and build quality was superior. I have not noticed any paint defects yet but then i cant generally see it over the road crap i keep washing off. You may want give the car a good quality wax job so that it will form a hard protective Shell. I also use Carnuba wax to protect my UPVC window frames from corrosive spider crap and it works.  When i first purchased my house it came with a strange extra all the window sills were covered in sellotape and it took me a while to figure out why.
