battery tender install

Hey everyone, my mother has an 08 yaris. she rarely ever drives it and is having issues keeping the Battery going. i was thinking of getting one of those small solar Battery maintainer things and putting it on the dash. they plug into the 12v accessory outlet (cig lighter). problem is she's not exactly near here so i would like to know if anyone knows if that plug is always on or if its only powered when the car is on? I would need to tap into the fuse box probably if its not always on.

I am in canada by the way, if that makes a difference?

It maybe different in other countries, where are you based?

One option may be to use an EOBD socket solar charger - they are quite widely available (in the UK, anyway). The EOBD socket should have a permanent 12V live, unlike the cigar/accessory socket.

I should add that many car manufacturers do not recommend any form of Battery maintenance via the OBD socket so it may invalidate the warranty - but on an 08 car that's not an issue!
