Brake pipe repair.

Recommended Posts

Since I can't go very far, I decided to repair my rear brake pipes yesterday.

Very good! Which flaring tool did you use?

I used the big Sykes Pickavant tool to make the short pipe and the small flaring tool to flare the pipe on the car.

Great job Stephen 👏. That’s a pretty big sharp bend, did it bend naturally without kinking or did you have to use a device like a spring or bending wheel??. Interesting to know.

I've got a wee device that I made up.

Basically, I bent it round a small socket using my hands.

I'll try to put up a picture of said device, it's a very simple thing.

I can't remember as I've had them for so long.

I've not used them for a long time.

I had a piece of brake pipe in the shed so, I didn't have to buy that either.

Ends are about 15p each in a motor factor.

Do you need pipes?

I think he has the same issue you did, rusted break lines at the ends.

The pipe is very cheap.  The cost of repair will depend on your repairers labour rate (cost per hour). Its not a major job. You will also need to bleed the brakes.
