Yaris hybrid won't start, have fully charger battery

Hi all. Am new here. I have a 2014 Hybrid Yaris. A week ago I'm pretty sure I left the headlights on for 2 whole days. Of course, my car was completely dead when i returned to it, no light, no central locking, nothing. I had a friend come with jumper cables. Nothing. The next day a mechanic came with jumper cables with a fully charged booster thingy. Nothing. Mechanic was baffled (disclaimer: was not a hybrid mechanic...). So, i removed the 12V Battery and charged it in my kitchen. When first plugged to charger it read 7.6V. It took 50 hours to get it to 14V. Although due to darkness i didnt install batt until next day, and it had then gone down to 12.7V. I install the Battery (on 12.7v) back in. Wahoo - there's lights in the dash, the central locking is working. Will the car start? No. Ready light will not come on. Tried everything, locking and unlocking car, fully pushing break peddle, every bit of advice in the manual....nothing works. Now the really annoying thing is it was booked to be truck-lifted to Toyota this morning to be seen, and due to Corona virus, our entire country was shut down last night (UK) and Toyota is now closed. Normal garages are operating, but not Toyota (for some strange reason). Normal garages don't seem to really know hybrids, so am reluctant to pay to get it lifted there. Any advice GREATLY appreciated. I have no breakdown cover. Car is very near my house but too far for an extension lead. Battery is definitely in nice and tight. Beware: i don't know the first thing about cars let alone hybrids so any language will need to be very much for dummies!!!! I've done all of the above with MASSES of help via telephone!! Mileage: 29,000

Have you tried using the spare key ? Do you hear the steering lock release ? If not foot on the brake hold the fob on top of the button till you hear it, then press and hold the button or press it twice

If the hybrid Battery is fully discharged - which it will be - none of its compex electronics controlling how the Battery is charged etc will work.

You WILL need someone with the specific charger who knows what they are doing - and has done it before - to recharge it.

If you get someone who does not know what they are doing - or who has not the correct equipment - there is a risk the Battery or electronic will be damaged. £1000s repair bills.

Hi,

have you sorted your troubles yet.? If not you can visit this forum https://priuschat.com/forum/ and search in there for similar problems. Either model of Prius will be very similar to yours and might give you a light how and what to do. There are people that knows a lot of this cars out there, they fix their cars themselves. Just look at it and I am sure you will find something helpful. Good luck and please share with us how it is going. 👍

I have left a Yaris Hybrid for well over 2 months and the hybrid Battery never fell by more than 2 bars, the 12V Battery also held it's charge and the car started first attempt.

Does the screen showing the hybrid Battery charge still work ?

Do you hear any relays clicking when you power-on the car ?

Have a good look at all the fuses and give the relays a gentle tap.

Leaving the lights on will not drain the traction Battery the system has fail safes in place, the safety loop may have been pulled or disturbed tho meaning the contactors will not pull in

Welcome Elle

Since you have no breakdown cover, I wonder if buying the Toyota breakdown cover (only £84 per year), then call them a day later - if they will come out and diagnose for you 🤔

Hi Amar, just seen this. Yes i did get it resolved. I had my car truck-lifted to a local garage (not hybrid specialists). They said the problem was caused by trying to jumpstart it. They said that if the Battery was only a bit low (say 11V or above), I might've got away with jumping it, but if the Battery is super flat then jump starting it (may) trip a hybrid computer system. They had to call a specialist who ran them through how to fix it. They had to run through my car's computer deleting all the error codes then wipe and reboot the computer, and then it worked. Took them 2.5 hours to go through it deleting errors. They charged me about £250 if I remember correctly.  Since this incident I left my lights on again once (whoops), but that time successfully jumped it normally... so who knows?!

I jumped my CT once & ended up in Dealer. Hybrid system died on me.  Cost me £100 at the time to have it sorted.

Looks like Hybrids do not like to power surge through jump-starting, although, they do provide jump start point in fusebox. 😏

Hello everyone 👋🏽 The problem I initially had was that I bought a damaged Toyota Yaris hybrid 2015 as a non runner (big risk I know ) but it only had 8k miles on the clock. The mileage is genuine and it was backed up by full Toyota service history and had only been in the dealers 3 weeks prior for a full service and a full hybrid check. So I knew the fault would be something silly. Initially when getting into the car the green key light would flash and no other dashboard lights would come on when pressing the start button. I opened the fuse box and noticed the IGN2 fuse a green 30 amp had been taken out and left to the side. I soon popped that in and hey presto! I had more ignition lights on when trying to start it but no “ READY” light was on which would enable me to drive. After a lot of head scratching and following diagrams of other fuse boxes I noticed the IGN fuse was also missing (15 amp blue)  . So in went another fuse and still no “READY” light on the dash. At this point this really started to bug me. Then I checked all the wiring and all was intact. I tried several 12v fully charged batteries before hand so I knew this wasn’t the issue. Anyhow, with the back seat base lifted I took out the big orange hybrid fuse and noticed it was not installed correctly. The pins in it were not aligning once clipped in. So I managed to clip this is correctly and we’ll have you know the big green “ READY” sign came  to light. Obviously after connecting the 12v Battery once again. So here you go guys it is always something simple. I really hope this thread helps someone out there 👋🏽

So, well done Aamar.  I glad I asked the question because your problem was more then slightly different to Elle’s, and more importantly - you solved it. Thanks for letting us all know your experiences. Sounds like now you may have a good motor vehicle.  Enjoy.
