Tread depth front to rear

Just got a rav4 for my wife. Do tyre tread depths have to be similar between the front and the rear to avoid damaging the AWD system?

usually the front tires wear more and get hotter than rear tires, so they will have less thread depth.
that's why they recommend to do tire rotation.
