RAV4 Excel 2020 - how to set seat memory?

Just taken delivery of a new RAV4 Excel and can't get seat memory to work. I've followed the instructions in the manual to press SET then 1 or 2 until buzzer sounds. There's a beep, then if I move the seat and try to recall the position nothing happens except a beep when I press the button. What am I doing wrong? Car is in Park with engine on.

It can be a bit fiddly, I noticed that the drivers door needs to shut to do it as well (?).

Set the seat to the desired position and then press and hold 'set' as well as the number you want until you hear the beep.

Apparently you can set each remote to a different drivers position as well, but I'm not sure if I can be bothered!

Just discovered the solution on another thread:

Adjust seat all the way forward, all the way back, all the way up, all the way down, all the way back reclined, all the way back to vertical, tip front of seat all the way up then all the way down. Between each step hold the switch in that position for 3 seconds.

Lo and behold, seat memory now works. Mind you, very sloppy PDI from dealer.

I had been wondering this, as I couldn't get mine (2020 Excel) to work.  Took the seat to its extremities and then set it.  Brilliant, it works.  Thank you.

Just had to go through this with my new Rav4, don't know if it laziness on the part of the person doing the PDI or the 12v Battery has been removed or replaced.

The memory function doesn't work on my 2022 Excel, I'll have to try this.

My Dynamic Premium PHEV 2022 has the same problem, will give this a go, thanks.

I'm usually the first to shout RTFM to friends and family but I just checked the latest 650 page owners manual  (OM42E42E.pdf), confusing it is on this function !

Good advice given above and here is a wee youtube video on what seems to be a generic Toyota seat memory function
