Avensis parking brake issue

First time poster looking for some advice please?

I have a 2014 Avensis diesel estate and the auto handbrake is not disengaging when I reverse, I have to pull forward to get it to release then reverse away. I haven't had any warning lights on the dashboard but I did see an electronic brake overheating message once.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

It sounds like a sticking calliper slider. It's best to have the rear brakes properly inspected, cleaned, lubricated where needed and reassembled. I don't think there is a problem with the EPB unit, but it's best to look at the cheaper items first!
