Hi folks is it normal when starting engine in mornings the revs are 1500rpms

It settles down when driving and stopping at junctions.

Was just wondering whether a new MAF sensor could do with replacing

Just bought the car. Advensis 2.0 vvti Petrol 2002

Yes. Toyotas have fast idle on cold start. Should drop back to less than 900rpm after a few minutes.

Normal start up with other Toyota engine designs, before 7A-FE 1.8 leanburn and 2ZR-FAE 1.8 Valvematic before and after the 1ZZ 1.8. Yes normal, especially in the cold to get the engine to operating temperature quickly.

Please can I ask is it worth removing the Mass Air Flow sensor on the Advensis and giving it a clean.  Just wondering where you would find it

2007, 1AZ-FSE, even in warm weather it's high revs on cold start.

Both mine and my wife's Toyotas do this it's fine. I thought it seemed odd at first

I have a strong suspicion that the high revs on a cold start are an attempt to get the catalyst up to working temperature ( around 600 centigrade?) as quickly as possible, so as to meet exhaust emissions targets. The hot, spent exhaust gases are all it has to heat it up.
