Aygo AC and performance

Hey guys!

Can something be done to the airconditioning to make it less violent when the compressor turns on and off? You can definitely feel it kick on and off when driving, especially at lower RPM. Do you guys notice it, or do you just get used to the car jolting a little and the speed going up and down on the motorway / city driving?

Thanks!

It's all down to the programming of the engine management - so there's nothing that can be done.

If you think this is bad then you need to have experienced a prototype Ford Escort cabrio that it was my misfortune to drive back in 1993 - when the aircon turned on & off the car would violently decelerate or accelerate to an extent that was positively dangerous.

I guess it is because the engine is small.

I do not have the AC on my current Aygo. But on my mk1, I remember putting the AC on was like deploying a brake parachute :D Driving with the AC at low speeds felt like driving with the handbrake pulled.

In case of emergency braking, put the AC on :D

Haha, the above replies sum up the experience - it almost feels like a parachute if you're already engine braking. Thank you for the replies - the AC is still a nice bonus anyway, so I just have to get used to it!

I've not noticed any difference in perfomance when running the AC or not.

can feel it on mine , its said to be like 4-5 hp drain on the engine so enough to notice on a low output car , turn it off if you need maximum power on a slip road or such

Agreed. I can definitely feel it in my car.

Very noticeable on my 6 week old car, reminds me of the ancient Toyotas I drove back in Oman in the mid 1980s
