Hi, I watch his videos and find they are helpful and informative. Sometimes the info he gives is slightly different from other you tubers , however he is an ex Toyota dealer technician and he might know something more than an average diy mechanics that are flooding the media. Latest video about egr is interesting, I have been in Uk Toyota dealer for consultation about this job and the tech guy advice was: “ clean everything properly”, there were few Priuses gen3 with people working on exact same issue. 👍

It's good to keep watching his videos as he appears to know what he's talking about and probably a more reliable source of background knowledge than the PC posters, though there's some very clever people on there too among the rubbish. Egr and manifold dirt build up appears to happen past 100k miles and a strip, clean or whatever isn't any worse amount of maintenance than a turbo diesel which can have exactly the same problem

Toyota Maintenance guy is ex Main dealer but I thought Car car Nut still worked for one.Egr does look fiddly but another make is a drop engine job.

I suppose it is all about time spent on job.

There are two videos which are important to watch to realise that its not always a clean cut one way or the other.

One is Scotty Kilmer going on about how a engine oil flush will flush the gunk into the VVT system. And how he had to remove the assembly to clean it.

The other is CarCarNut discussing engine oil flushes and how they have been having good luck with one particular brand at the dealership.

Don't know CarCareNut, but Scotty Kilmer's is a slimy click-bait channel - I'd take anything he says with a big grain of salt as most of his 'truths' are politician's truths. The man should work for the tabloids!

He has a good experience though, he is not always correct but most of the times. The other guy is a pro and still works at Toyota.

He does still work for Toyota. Love his videos!

I stopped taking Scotty seriously when he made a shouty rant about the absence of an alternator in a Prius. He'd rather have one in order for it to go wrong so he could change it! And there's something wrong with anybody who needs to shout at the top of his voice to deliver his "expertise"  Compare with the common sense from the car care nut (who incidentally advocates 5k oil changes and 60k transmission fluid changes if you intend to keep the car beyond 100k / 10 years)

Yeah, everything I've seen him talk about as if it's some incredible revelation has either been common sense, horribly misleading or plain idiotic. He should call himself The King of Car Clickbait.

There a loads of much better car channels out there... for entertainment and general silliness Car Throttle is a good laugh. Bad Obsession's insane Mini-GT4 conversion odyssey is also a good one.

For more technical and maintenance stuff, Diagnose Dan, ChrisFix, EddChina's Garage, Engineering Explained, speedkar99, jeffescortlx, driving4answers, South Main Auto - All very good. Another one I found recently is Alan Howatt - He's a bit of a knob but the man is a godlike-guru of anything to do with diesel ford mondeos!

For reviewing, my current playlist is Bob Flavin, Auto Social and JayEmm.

Been watching a few of the CarCareNut guy's vids - Will be added to my list! He's pretty good, although a bit preachy and wow he really worships Toyota  I hope they give him some recognition for being such a loyal employee!

Which I completely agree with aye.  Auto fluid changes are a routine in the US but here we seem to think we have magic fluid that never wears out. 😀

CarCareNut channel is the best Toyota channel with objective and clear contents. He explain all pro and cons about any car, nothing personal and he knows exactly from statistical number he deal with for years in dealership.  However, do not expect too much in Europe how Toyota deal with their costumer.  Toyota/Lexus replace melting dashboard for cars older than 13 years no mileage limit in USA, just because they stand for costumer satisfaction,  Toyota replace brake booster for Prius 2011-2015 for free unlimited miles until 2021 August, etc., or replace engine if it consumes oil more than 1L per 1000 miles in some model.

Kilmer has over 50 years of car repair experience. His advices about what brands are reliable and what are not, are useful for Americans. According to him, they are lazy when it comes to maintenance.
