1998 starlet refuses to run

My starlet has recently decided it does not want to run. It has been working fine up until now.

It was last started a week ago, it has fresh fuel, no clogs in the air intake

The engine runs briefly (2-3 seconds) and dies, it won't rev, and the ignition needs cycled for the car to start

What could cause this issue?

Could a damaged ignition switch cause this?

issue has been resolved

the key chip wasn’t being recognised and unplugging and replugging the decoder solved it
