Hi guys, I have a 2005 1.6 Corolla on 144,000 miles, recently on startup and when pulling away around town there is a distinct smell of petrol fumes that enters the cabin. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Hi,

if burnt fumes entering the cabin often happens when exhaust manifold gasket that connects to the catalytic converter has gone bad and has a leak, or blocked catalytic converter or exhaust silencers. The whole exhaust system should be checked for leaks. If it smells like fresh petrol from the tank then check fuel lines, fuel filter, injectors and intake manifold for fuel leaks. Maybe someone else that knows that particular model can help further. 👍
