is it a factory sunroof or an aftermarket one

factory sunroof lots of black sealant round the outside last owner paid 50 pounds for a garage to seal it worried it might start leaking and it looks a mess left on deposit on the car but if it is going to cost to much i will cancel the car i would not be able to fix it would a garage to repair it properly

Probably was leaking and someone has tried to seal off with sealant. If starts leaking again, best to dismantle, clean properly and use a new original sealant. Diy or garage can do, how much would it be no idea. 👍

due to age the seals will have perished unless it's a cheap car, leave well alone

you can't get the rubber from Toyota any more and to do it properly the headlining needs to come out

As you can see here the rubber is part of the glass https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265246359007

If you can open the roof then you dont know if it works or if there is any rust in the rails/roof

I perhaps wouldn't have cancelled the order as it wouldnt be too difficult to swop out the sunroof with another.  Just a few bolts.  Was the car otherwise in good condition?  Mileage seems very acceptable.  No harm in asking why the sealant was there and if you could pull some back.  Ultimately depends on how much work you would be interested in doing yourself on the car, otherwise costs can build up very quickly!

Some times you just can’t win Keith.

Did you not notice this on a test run?
if bought from dealer you have protection, take it back immediately.

If you bought privately, not so good.

Get it up in the air and check it over, if the grumble changes with speed it's a wheel bearing, a knock on the suspension is more than likely drop links what are common fail on the Mk1

what's the MOT history like ?

Try a few things:

Drive on a straight smooth road and see if there's any noise.  Check tyre tread depth and if there is any feathering of the tyres.  Ok? then next step

Park the car up, pop the bonnet and bounce the car up and down.  Be firm to make sure the car moves.  Any noises?  See if you can hear whether there are noises from the suspension top mounts (black circles in each corner near to the windscreen).  If it creaks top mounts could be worn.  Bounce the back of the car too by opening the boot lid and pushing the latch area up and down.  Finally rock the car either way from the top. If you hear a kind of clunk, it could just be the anti roll bar drop links.  The rubbers on these perish very quickly.  Make a bit of a clunk when coming to a stop and you may feel this in the steering.  They're quite cheap and a garage shouldnt take more than 45mins to an hour to replace. In any of the other cases, see if the springs are ok and not broken.  Is the ride height the same on each side?

Do some turns in a carpark - full lock each way.  Listen for any noises.  Any clicking noises could be CV joints.  Reduce from full lock slightly (maybe half a turn) and have a listen.  If ok, CV joints could be ok

Drive a long at around 30mph and go through some turns - if the droning increases during either of those get wheel bearings checked

Let us know how you get on

Edit: Flash22 already mentioned some of these - i'm a bit slow!
