Just joined the AA so it takes 24 hours so thought I would ask see if anyone had a idea what’s happened ? Am clueless as it my first ever car and only passed my test in May

It could be anything e.g: Key Barrel, Starter, Battery, Fuses, Relays

First thing I would check the most obvious: Battery voltage.  Then confirm there is a click from starter when the car turns over.  Observe the minimum voltage during crank to assess the strength of the Battery (CCA).

From there build up logical steps to isolate the problem.

Take a look at the Battery, is it old, probably original? Could be Battery is just dead as said above. Considering the car age, that's probably the case.

If you have some tool to measure the Battery, that would be ideal, should be around 12.8 ideally, if it's between 11 and 12, it should still crank, but fail to start, lower than that, it would to pretty much nothing, except turn the lights on.

It has to be in N to start the engine not E.
