Correct way to "Power Off"

Reading the manual, it says to make sure the lever is moved to 'P' and then press the power button. After that it says release the foot brake.

Sorry for what seems a stupid question but should I be pressing the button to power off while I still have my foot on the brake or is it OK to release the foot brake once I've mover the lever into 'P'?

I have always.

  • Put foot on brake
  • Press start
  • Move to drive/reverse

That’s sounds like procedure for starting up.

  • Put foot on brake
  • Put car in park
  • Switch off

I forgot to add, "wait for parking brake to engage" then switch off and remove foot from brake pedal 😂

Yes, you don't have to keep holding the footbrake to turn it off - The footbrake just releases the shift-lever lock to allow you to put it into P, but once it's in P you can let go of the foot brake, do a little jig etc. and still turn off the car with the power button alone

(For clarification I don't do a little jig before I turn the car off)

One more tip from me when parking on slopes or hillsides you can do the following procedure:

1. stop the car,

2.hold the brake pedal ,

3. move gear selector to N neutral

4. engage the hand brake (parking brake)

5. release foot brake while car is still in N neutral the car will push itself a bit ,

6. move gear selector to P parking, turn off push button.

when you next start the car and select D or R will be smoother and easier without any extra thuds. 👍
