Have you checked the filter? You need to remove the rear seat base then the plastic panel with the vent grille, the filter is inside. This needs to be checked regularly but frequency depends on how much dust and fluff you produce in the car. There's YouTube videos about it if you search

Forgot to mention earlier models might not have the filter, perhaps others know better than me, you might then have to check the fan itself for blockage

That’s right, you will need to check the fan blades if they are clean and free from dust, fluff and hair. There are some useful apps like hybrid assistant, dr. Prius etc for android phones that can run diagnostic and test the fan speeds too, all you need is a obd 2 adapter like OBDLink LX 427201 ScanTool Bluetooth: Professional OBD-II Scan Tool for Android & Windows, Green or Carista and this can help you out. Other option is to take the car to a garage for diagnostic.
Good luck

i stripped it down again yesterday and removed the sensor in the ducting

and gave this a quick clean and so far it has been ok

i have tested the fan using hybrid assistant

does anyone know what the settings mean for the Battery cooling fan

on the hybrid assistant app there are numbers and a letter A appears

would like to know how ithe fan should be setup

Hi,

good to hear it’s all sorted. The fan setting should be in A auto but it might goes to A by default after you close the app. Battery management system is responsible for fan speeds depending on temperature. I heard for first time with this app my fan spinning so fast at level 6, I never manage to heat up my Battery more than speed 3 or 4 in real world driving. 👍
