New Noise only on certain road types and slow speeds

Hello I have a new noise that only seems to happen when on rough or gravel type tracks or road surfaces. It is otherwise fine even going over speed bumps doesn't make the noise. I asked the Toyota dealership to look at as I have just taken for a major service (70k) has been covered. I have attached a video driving down a rough gravel road at around 5 to 10 mph and it is then constant, as soon as on normal roads it goes almost not heard  until a pretty bad road may then make the sound. It feels like it is around the steering area either low or high but honestly I cant tell. The dealership found nothing wrong, but suggested trying to change a front shock and see if that helped. No confidence and others who have heard it also not sure. One person said could be a shock, another said could be drive shaft. I guess I am hoping someone has had the same problem and resolved. Its on a 2013 Auris Hybid hatch 70k miles total Toyota service history (soon to change) as they have become very shady and now supply optifit parts not as original. I have also taken to a tracking specialist and they had a look and could find nothing.

if you mean the knocking/rattling noise I would be looking to see if there is anything in the glove compartment, the seat belt etc. that is causing it.

Optifit parts are still Toyota parts but a lower/cheaper range than the oem factory parts. I am sure that if you insist on the oem parts the dealer will do so albeit at a higher price than the optifit. Plus continuing to service at Toyota dealer will keep it under warranty through the Relax scheme.

p.s. welcome to TOC

Toyota introduced their Optifit parts a few years ago, as a more cost effective alternative to OE parts.  For example the Optifit Wiper Blades are made by Trico, bulbs by Philips, etc.

Hi,

for looking the source of these noises you have to take everything out of the car, all luggage, bottles of drinks, charging cables, glovebox load, under the seats , anything including the boot and spare wheel compartment, door cards , everything from everywhere., this sound to me like metal to plastic rattle, and I can get the same noise from my torch and keys in the door card pocket. Under bonnet check for anything loose, air intake can cause similar rattling noises too, engine cover, or around Wiper Blades plastic trays.
Good luck 👍

Appear to have found by trying something that seemed daft but seems to have worked. I took the 12mm bolt out of the steering column sprayed it and put it back in nice and tight. Seems to have sorted so far
