Oil - I'm Confused There Are So

Ok guys and gals, I've got my 2004 Rolla 1.6 Auto and although it's only a few weeks old I want to get some oil in the garage, so that I'm ready to top it up when it needs it, but I'm confused as to what to put in it as there are so many different manufactures and types to choose from. Also I don't know what is already in there and so I'm not sure how it will react if I add something different. :help: Any advice/recommendations on what to use here in the UK will be most welcome.

OK, after much deliberation I've opted for Castrol GTX Magnatec Modern Synthetic 10W-40. I purchased 4.5L for £13.50 which seemed a reasonable price.

Hey Bearcat...

Just a suggestion- if you have a 2004 Corolla then you're not going to need to "top off" the oil between changes for the next 200,000 miles (I think thats about 320,000 K)

Good luck with your car

Bearcat,

Never top-up oil if u're not sure what's inside. Always top-up with the same oil, preferably from the same can/batch. The Castrol GTX Magnetic is a good pick, and note that if u start using fully synth oil, it's suggested never to use semi-snth or mineral oils. You can updrade from mineral to semi-synth to synth, but it's always suggested never to downgrade.

wait until its time for a service, give them the bottle and tell them to refil it with *this* that way you can buy a replacement bottle every now and then (like you will ever need it lol).

Shell hold the oil very well, unless you drive it on redline EVERYDAY ALL DAY, she wont use much oil at all.

It won't be a bad idea to stay next to your car when they're doing the service, so u'll be sure on thw oils they use etc....
