Corolla E12 Wiper Problem

Greetings everyone!

I have a problem with my E12 TMUK rolla. When I bought the car, the wipers were working in wash & wipe mode and automatic mode worked too (using rain sensor). Any other cycles weren't working. The wiper switch for E12 after FL is quite hard to find, I found one used and ordered it from another country. I installed the wiper switch and now the wash & wipe cycle doesn't work (it sprays fluid but doesn't wipe it right afterward), automatic mode doesn't work and wipers don't stop in park position, instead they stay on current place when switching off. It's really annoying to manually wipe during light rain. They wipe normally on all cycles, like going up and down, but they just don't stay at home position when I switch them off.

Found some solutions online, many people said that it's caused by wiper motor circuit, but I really doubt that. I checked the wiring diagram and I think I just have two faulty wiper switches. What do you think of this? Anyone experienced the same thing?

I'm asking because new one is hell expensive and I'm not willing to buy new one for 250€+ and see that it didn't solve the problem at all.

Thanks!

Yes, I have original one. The part number is 84652-02380. I'm from Slovakia, the VIN is in your PM.

According to that vin

Built - 07/2004

Model - ZZE123L-DHFGFW

Engine - 2ZZGE

Colour - 3E5 Super Red II

84652-02380 is correct

The logic is built into the stalk, if the wipers are not parking correctly i would suspect the wiper motor is at fault as the stalk needs to see the park position, i will have to pull up the ewd for the wipers (auto) to check

I'm not really sure that wiper motor is the problem, as two same stalks I have work different in the same car and in the same conditions. Thanks, I will disassembly the motor tommorow and do some measuring. Anyway, I've read on forums and found someone post this circular contact, I assume it's for home position detection, it's worth to try cleaning it. Otherwise I will probably buy new wiper motor. Thanks for your help.

Yes it detects the motor position, by all means clean it up and regrease, inspect the connector's, corrosion may be causing a high resistance issue

Should classic electrical contact cleaner and dielectric grease do the work? I got Battery terminal grease too.

Do you have a 12v test light? A simple one with a bulb inside?

I could suggest some simple tests to eliminate the wiper motor and focus on the switch or wiring (never dismiss the wiring) if that would help.

I got multimeter, what are your suggestions?

OK, a multimeter will work, but you have to keep all the connections plugged in otherwise you might fail to see a bad connection with a multimeter. I will refer to the wiring diagram that Bob supplied:

What I was going to suggest, before pulling the motor apart, is test at the motor connector and see if the park switch is making a connection. Stop the wipers in a position where they should auto park, like pointing straight up, and leave the ignition on. Go to the wiper motor connector and check that both terminals 2&3 have 12v when tested against Battery negative. If terminal 3 has 12v (or very close) then the motor unit is OK, but you need to keep it plugged in and use pins to probe it from behind if necessary.

When terminal 3 is live, it should feed current out to the switch & relay and receive it back on terminal 1, which is what causes the wipers to return to the park position.
