Hello everyone. I ordered a new Toyota Yaris Cross with the delivery date at 1st February 2022. Somebody knows if it is possible to find out the VIN number in advance? One month before the delivery date, for example.

Thank you for your support,

Georgeta

The vin is allocated when the car moves to build status, I’m not sure when exactly. I thought it might be when the order was placed, but that’s not the case, unless of course your order is attached to an already built car.

In one of the threads about the Yaris Cross (it’s a long thread) there are details, by @Sevenarth about how to delve behind the information shown by the my toyota and your order status. When you do that, you’ll find there’s a data returned called vinnumber, my order is at “scheduled for build”, but as yet the vinnumber is “null”, i.e., not assigned.

VIN is allocated once car hits Trim & Final build. BIW are just painted shells until they're requested from T&F facility/Order.

It's in the system, but the customer doesn't usually receive it until the car has been PDI'ed/registered, but the dealer will have it

The shells get their VIN before paint as it's punched and etched in to various places both visual and hidden

Nope. Bodies have body numbers, but not VIN until etched in Trim. This is why ViN is interior of car or if engine bay, covered with plastic transparent sticker.

I’ve Worked in car industry for 40 years.

Stickers and plates go in at the trim stage, VIN's and sometimes bar codes are stamped/etched into the body before coatings as 90% of the marking are painted with 2 or 3 hidden vin's on the body

Hidden VINs are stickers, not etched. You can’t etch a VIN then paint over it. It would impact on the Info. Believe me, all VIN numbers are either etched or applied via sticker in Trim. I’ve written processes for them for 40 years!

Bodies are just RHD, LHD, Sunroof, No sunroof, Body style. VINs cannot be allocated until body is called from Trim.

For clarification - VINs can be etched in paint shop, after being painted, however, due to potential for swarf from the process, many choose to do it in Trim or just before it enters. This is to ensure paint shop is a clean environment- which is key to paint finish.
