Hi-ace van, which is the best model/year

Hi

As the title suggests, which is the best UK spec Hi-Ace diesel to buy ? I am just gathering some research for a project as I want a SWB Van that can be used as an occasional camper just for weekends. I will be kitting it out with extra windows, poss removable rear seats, basic kitchen, bed and emergency use porta loo, that will be easy to remove.

I am thinking about a 2009 as these all have A/C as standard but I have been looking on the internet and have noticed that quite a few wanted adds for the 1999 - 2006 model

I don't have a problem getting an older van if they are more reliable etc

Any observations welcome

The Hiace Powervan sold in Europe was basically the same model throughout the period 1996 to 2012. There were some revisions which affected load capacity, etc - eg:

Hiaces are awesome vehicles. I have a converted camper as one. Solid, bulletproof engines, low maintenance. But you need to think about the height of the vehicle, the ones with the rooflines right at windscreen height are really low, look around and you will find many taller and longer versions. I have a 3ltr turbo diesel, and its really nice to drive its a super custom version.
