Hi,

did anyone have the same problem? Vibrations and rattling of the gear lever in the neutral position can be heard when the car is cold. When the engine warms up a bit, the vibrations gradually decrease and the rattle disappears.

A known issue subject to a TSB from Toyota:

CP-00091T-TME

Subject:
MEA64 and MEA65 Manual transmission: shift lever vibration/rattle noise

Models – Model Codes:
Avensis - WWT271 ;
RAV4 - WWA42 ;

Description of the phenomenon

Some customers may experience and report manual transmission shift lever vibration and/or a rattle noise during idle in neutral when the engine is cold. This phenomenon is caused by a combination of under pressure in the manual transmission and shift lever damper mass.

Production change

Change the breather plug design of manual transmission to improve air flow and change the shape of the shift lever damper to reduce the mass itself.

Thanks a lot for the answer and information!
Do you know, perhaps, whether this problem has been recognized by Toyota and whether it is included in the cost covered by the warranty?

Kind regards

Marko

It depends on what warranty term your market applies, Toyota UK gave 5 years and the issue would be covered, does your market offer Toyota Relax ? if it does and you meet the criteria of your local market the issue should also be covered by Toyota relax.

Thanks a lot again. I am in Croatia, the car was recently purchased in Belgium and is covered by a 5 year warranty. Tomorrow I go to the regular service and automatically enter the Relax program. We'll see what he says.

I did regular service. As part of the Relax program, it will eliminate the problem of rattling. Thanks a lot for the help and advice!
