Maintenance questions

How many kilometers or miles did you do in total ?

How many now per year ?

Did you do maintenance at an official dealer or elsewhere / did it yourself ?

Can you give us an idea of your maintenance cost ?

Until 2020 I did less than 500 miles per year in my Mk1 C1 and had servicing done by a local independent.

When I got my new Mk2 Aygo in October 2020 I purchased a dealer service plan and have done nearly 6000 miles in the last year.

In that case , how often did you still do oil changes and / or maintenance ?
500 miles a year is very low...   Would feel like a waste to take it to the dealer yearly.   🙂

I was doing 10k a year until 2020, and now I do 5k a year due to working from home. I still take my car to the dealer because servicing yearly is necessary regardless of mileage. Even if a car does 500 miles a year it still needs an oil change. Its one of the conditions of the warranty as well that the car is serviced yearly.

1) I didn't take to the dealer, a local independent garage.

2) The C1 was over 3 years old so I had to have an annual MOT test.

3) Even when not driven many miles things can deteriorate - brake fluid can absorb moisture, air con refrigerant can lose pressure, brakes can seize, etc. so an annual service is advisable IMHO.

I know that's what Toyota says and my car is still under warranty what makes the choice a bit different.

But, allow me to doubt the car really needs this kind of yearly maintenance if you do 500 a year.

I don't doubt Toyota says it does.

The things that have to be checked : I could check myself.

Take it to a dealer : I Was thinking for myself as I am kind of obliged to take it there as I would lose the warranty partly if I didn't.

Aircon : my Aircon specialist tells me : no maintenance needed as long as it is cooling well enough. I agree..

If doing 5-6000 miles a year I wouldn't doubt either.

Mot is a different system here not done by garages, only independent mot stations.

I do respect everyone's views though. Always open to hear and learn.

I agree about going to the dealer when under warranty (which is what I will be doing with my Mk2) but my Mk1 was well out of warranty (it was a 2008 model so the warranty ran out in 2011, only 1 year after I purchased it). Hence why I went for the option of the same independent garage that did the MOT doing the service (which also meant I paid a heavily discounted fee for the MOT).

Aircon - some low level of refrigerant leakage is normal causing the effectiveness to slowly lessen, as with all things that change slowly human nature means you don't notice it so IMHO having the refrigerant pressure checked each year (especially on an older vehicle) is good practice.

Had our 13 year old 107 since new , dealer serviced 3 years then serviced myself, always done at least an oil + filter change every year regardless of mileage ours is very low, no aircon on ours, which we didn't want, more to go wrong for me. Anything beyond me always used local independents. Same with our 108, that was used so only 1 year warranty, but has aircon, but independents got the fancy machine to do that properly, but again oil + filter every year. To be fair, beauty of these little cars they easy and simple to work on.
