P1473 : Fault Path for Long Time Drift

Toyota Verso Trend D-4D

Registration 26 May 2015

Model Details 1.6 D-4D 110

Engine Code 1W-W

Market:Europe Year:04/2015 Make:TOYOTA Model:VERSO Frame:WAR20

Having had O2 Bank1 Sensor1 replaced with and aftermarket equivalent I have had some previously detected Fault Codes resolved, and then replaced MAF sensor (with salvaged, not new twice already)

IMG_3623.thumb.jpg.55cfa096c05055cb03587b489529ad99.jpg

Whilst no dashboard light comes on, but every other driving day, the Autel AP200M bluetooth OBD2 Scanner detects the car has registered the Fault Code:

P1473 : Fault Path for Long Time Drift

Incidentally, the EGR Valve had been replaced a month before the Toyota Recall 😞 (which is meant to overcome EGR Valve Overheating).

Please can I ask:

a. Has anyone seen persistent P1473 and managed to find the solution?

b. Is it worth paying to buy Original New MAF Sensor?

I could include the Frozen Frame for the P1473 if anyone knows how to decode it?

Thanks in advance.

P1473 relates to a fault with swirl flap position:

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK SWIRL CONTROL VALVE

    1. Check for soot deposits inside the swirl control valve.

      OK
      No soot deposits.

      Tech Tips

      • If soot deposits are found, clean the swirl control valve.

      • If cleaning does not remove the soot deposits, replace the swirl control valve.

    2. Check for the operation mechanism of the swirl control valve for damage such as link deformation.

      OK
      No damage.
    3. Check operation.

      1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

      2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

      3. Start the engine.

      4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Actuator Test of Swirl Flap / Data List / Swirl Valve Actuator Position.

        OK
The value of "Swirl Valve Actuator Position" changes according to the amount "Actuator Test of Swirl Flap" is operated, and the swirl flap operates smoothly.

Thank you so much again Lee,

I'm grateful for you quick response, which I shall discuss with my mechanic and provide update here ASAP.

I must admit that I had seen similar information at the link below:

https://toyota-club.net/files/techdata/dtc/ems_1ww.htm

But the impression I got was that BMW stopped swirl control valve in their engines some time ago and couldn’t find any Swirl part information at the link below either:

https://www.toyodiy.com/parts/g_E_201504_TOYOTA_VERSO_WAR20R-GWFEYW.html

Is there a way for me to get a login to https://www.techdoc-toyota.com please to have a better visibility of diagrams etc?

Thanks again

Soheil

Below is also reponse from ussupport@autel.com to my email request to analyse the attached Frozen Data for P1473:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Autel Support.

You will have to refer to a Shop Manual such as Mitchel,  All data or any other shop manual to verify the procedure for that specific code for that vehicle.

With any general electrical diagnostic issues that are intermittent, verify wiring for shorts to power and/or grounds, verify power sources (Fuses and connections), verify grounds(Anker points, wires), all related connectors on that system.

Thank you.

Hi,
I have tried everything so far including changing O2 Bank1 Sensor1 & MAF sensors twice around and Fuel Filter & EGR valve had recently been changed but Fault Code P1473 ( see attached Frozen Data) keeps reoccurring.

Please could you give me indication of what could be causing this intermittent (once every couple of days of driving) fault and what should the next step be.

VIN: NMTDM26R00R029274
Toyota Verso D-4D 1.6 Litre

Many thanks

The swirl flap is integral to the intake manifold:
