Aux belt change

I need to change the auxiliary belt on my 1.8 2004 Verso.

I understand that you can do this by slackening off a bolt on the top left of the engine, then pulling the unit forward to release the belt.

Trouble is I cannot get the bolt in question to slacken and the space is too narrow for a socket. Have tried WD40, long spanner with an extender, but it won't budge. Any tips on how to do this? Or are there any workarounds?

I suggest you squirt WD40 on it three or four times a day for a few days and then try with your scanner and extension. Also if you can somehow shock it with a hammer blow it can work also as the shock can break the seal.

Try a mix of 50-50 automatic transmission fluid and acetone. It works as a penetrating fluid. Much better than WD-40. Keep brushing it on over  a few hours and leave it for a day or so. It also removes paint, so be careful when you use it.
