I had the same issue! Just out of luck I found an insurer but my existing insurer wasn't one of them.

Hi everyone

Can I request some quick help please?

I have just changed my car to the above estima but my insurer has said that they can't insure this car, so I can't drive it now (thinking of getting something temporary though)

Which insurer can I go to to get the insurance?

Thanks in advance

Try Adrian Flux, Mark Richard or Sky Insurance.

You may need to insist that they contact the underwriters to ensure your specific model is covered.

Thanks everyone for your help.

I wanted to update you earlier but some Battery issues.

Anyway I contacted Adrian Flux but I think they don't provide instant quotes and I needed the insurance that day so I ended up with RAC. The price that I paid was more than twice of what I was paying for the Mazda 5.

Today I got a call from Adrian Flux but couldn't discuss as was driving. So I plan to ring tomorrow to take it further.

And sadly I'll have to start/search for a new post for dead Estima Battery ☹️

Thanks. After your suggestion, I sent an email again, but got the standard reply 'we apologise for any inconvenience'

I insured my Estima hybrid last year with Admiral. It was ~ £460.

This year the renewal came to ~£615!! With no motoring incidents etc, full NCB (20+yrs)??

Of course I'm not having that so I went on comparison sites. I also went direct to those mainstream companies who do not appear on comparison sites, but a few did not list the make/model, or did not present the hybrid option. Anyway I did get quite a few come up on the comparison sites and have been able to get insured for the next year with Flow, an LV company.

Surprised.

I was with Flow and they refused to insure my estima hybrid 2.4 2008 model. I had to go to RAC.

That’s just them not wishing to bother putting any effort in. Continue searching, you’ll get insurance that suits you.

Try LV Insurance.  I bought my Estima Aeras in March (not hybrid though), and insurers were not quoting or else were charging ridiculous amounts.  When I found LV, they quoted a similar price to my previous Previa and confirmed that it was insured as an import.  Unfortunately, Toyota UK still doesn't recognise my car on its systems - they've got some way to go yet to catch up with today's fluid vehicle situation.

Why should they? After the Previa ceased to be exported to Europe due to not being able to compete with the heavily discounted Galaxy, Alhambra, Sharan, etc, later versions (Estima) were brought in as unofficial, grey imports. Numbers of these grey imports don't justify support (parts backup, etc) by European importing organisations.

Hello folks,

I tried to obtian a insurance quote for a Toyota Estima - Petrol Hybrid (Import) which has only just been registered in the UK, so it has a registration number now, just waiting for the paper work to come before I collect the car.

Our Insursance provider could not find the car on the system via the UK Registration plate, so they tried to manually enter the details but advised they could not insure the car with the details provided.

They said they could only find a Petrol version of this car, not a Hybrid.

I managed to find some online qoutes for insurance but again they were for a Toyota Estimata Petrol, not Hybrid. Though I did select Import on when requesting  the quote.

Will the fact that the ''Hybrid'' model is not available on the insurance portal, invalidate my insurance at all ?

Anyone who has a similar car, how have you managed to insure your vehicle ?

Thanks

I had the same issue. The dealer I bought it from gave me the number for Advance Insurance 01249 461665.

I’ve not had any other dealings with them apart from signing up with them.

I have insured via NFU mutual no fancy hiked premiums, all over the phone and they are not on comparisson sites but 0% monthly installments and breakdown cover with a great premium for the year.

Hi all, thanks to everyone for your responses, appreciated.

I rang and spoke to Adrian Flux, the price they quoted was incredibly expensive (over 3x times the price another quoted).

I told the chaps at Adrian Flux about the comparison site I had used and that there was no Hybrid option...it was only petrol.

They said that is normal and not an issue.  They couldn't find any better prices but will speak to other under writers. They said to CALL any of the insurance providers from the comparison site...rather than relying on the online updates.

Ive since spoken to a big insurance brand, they were the 3rd cheapest but I decided to stick with them as they are well known and big firm. They are aware it's a imported  vehicle (Asia) and I also informed them it's Hybrid Petrol, but the system would only allow Petrol version. They have made a manual entry on the system to tag it's a Hybrid and have insured the car!

The car does come up on the UK.GOV MOT checker sites BUT the registration number still does not pull up any info., so details had to be manually inserted.

I'll be picking up the car in the coming weeks!

Thanks everyone for your help

Hi, I'm having the same issue with insuring a Toyota Estima i'm looking to buy - can you please send me a PM with the details of the large insurance company who gave you a reasonable quote?

I have tried Adrian Flux and their quote was over 2.5 x higher than the lowest quote on a comparison site.

Kind regards

Raja

Similar topics merged.

European comparison sites probably won't list the Estima hybrid as it was never officially exported to European markets.

The petrol/diesel Estima was exported to Europe as the Previa up to 2006.

Have a look through previous posts within this topic re insurance.

You need to find an import insurer, phone around the brokers, do you have points on your licence or is it a case of you have claims in the last 5 years
