Vvti running badly under load

Hi there

Help needed, have 2004 2.0 vvti which had O2 sensor issues, brining on engine light. Replaced both sensors, runs ok under free reving and no lights on.

About 3 miles into a journey starts chugging and losing power under load, whiteish smoke but not like head gasket smoke.

Very hard on petrol, which suggests some kind of overfueling issue...any ideas.

Maybe the EGR needs a clean?
