Sunroof On Previa Gs

I am having problems with my sunroof motor on 1994 Previa GS.

Tried to get it fixed under a used car warranty only to be told that it is not a factory fitted roof. Contacted supplier garage who told me it was factory fitted. Anyone any ideas who is right.

Also any ideas how I can stop my sliding door from sticking. All doors unlocked but rear door occasionally will not open yet door open warning is lit up.

These sunroofs werent actually fitted by the factory as such, but were fitted at TGB import centre. They arent Toyota sunroofs, if I remember rightly they were made by a company called Zani. We had loads of problems with these, nearly every Previa we sold had the motor or mechanism changed under warranty. Good thing is they werent very expensive but I dont know if you can still get them from Toyota?

Cheap & cheerfull! (not like Toyota)

Check with your local dealer, they used to be listed in their accessory manuals under 'port of entry' parts!

I think the part no began 00027-*****-**

If it wasnt fitted with the car its not a factory fitted sunroof is what they mean....

But if it was fitted when u took out the warrenty i would say u are right....but you might have to push them on it

I know iwas charged 200 quid last month and my warrenty never covered it and mine was factory fitted by toyota :(

U tried using some grease and clearing any gunk of the sliding door frame that might help

Update on my sunroof.

Well it finally gave up the ghost, not the motor but somehow the roof twisted on the runners and snapped off completly.

The surprise was my local Toyota dealer wanted to charge me £1400 (yes one thousand four hundred pounds) to replace the c*** Zani roof. A local sunroof company fitted a Webasto Hollandia sunroof for £500. What a difference in price and the Webasto appears to be a superior roof.

Are Toyota main dealers ripping off customers considering they charged me £33 for giving me the quote. Needless to say a letter of complaint has gone to the dealership.

My advice to anyone with sunfoof problems is forget your Toyota dealer and go to a specialist. As I have shown, it certainly pays.

I have the same problem and was quoted over £700 just for parts. Where did you get yours replaced?

My Zani Sunroof died last winter when my wife tried opening it when frozen. sheared the drive sliders off. the local dealer at least sucked his teeth before telling me the parts alone would be £350!!

Zani are in Italy and they e-mailed me with a Quote of 40 Euros but my italian is awful so I'm not sure its correct. If any italian Speakers are out there perhaps you could enquire on our behal  f??

i,ve got a '91 previa (non-import) and my sunroof motor works but doesn't operate the roof. does anyone know which bit is actually broken and how do i get access to it?

Assuming its a zani roof. you have broken the drive sliders most likely. The way to see is to prise up the glass(carefully) to an open posn then using the latches release the glass giving you access to the screws etc. to find out which bit is broken. Prob is getting spares see my last. good luck

Re: davidb's sticking slide door...

The sticking lock is either door adjustment (the door is leaning on the latchpin, preventing it from disengaging) or the lock is "hanging up" and probably requires a spot of lubrication (as we all do sometimes  ).

Assuming that you've already flooded the lock asembly with WD 40... the door adjustment is detailed in the Haynes manual for the US Version (Manual No. 2048). Visual clues that it's the door adjustment will include the door appering to be "squint" in the aperture, just before it's totally closed and a heavily worn area on the top (or bottom, if the door is sagging to the rear) of the latch pin...

I hope this helps.... :bookworm:

Only my personal opinion but if you want to keep a working sunroof don't let Inchcape near it!

If they can't get the caps lock off a keyboard just think what they'll do to your car!
