CVT Engine revs up to 3k-4k when driving on a steep hille

Does any of your automatic CVT Verso-S revs the engine so much when driving on a steep hill? This happens on my 2011 CVT Verso-S which I bought recently and it actually happens when you start put your foot on the brake paddle.

Is this normal or a fault?

I'm assuming you mean when going DOWN this steep hill - It might be the car 'upshifting' to provide more engine braking to save the brakes a bit.

Sorry Yes, I should have made is more clearer. Yes  going down hill. The trouble is when the revs goes up so high all of a sudden,  the control of the car is also somewhat is an issue making you feels like its not in control.

Its a perfectly normal response on the 1.33 CVT which as Cyker mentions is applying engine braking as the car descends a hill
